Long time friend and colleague, Kimonui Holgen is again going on a medical mission to southern Peru with Project Helping Hands to provide care in some of the neediest, impoverished areas of the world.  Dear Sponsor,

 Once again I would like to share my excitement with you over my upcoming medical mission and ask for your support. This year I will be participating in a medical mission to southern Peru from November 9 to 22, 2013 with Project Helping Hands (PHH – www.project-helping-hands.org ). Our ongoing medical missions travel to some of the neediest impoverished areas of the world every year offering health and hope.
 
I will be working with a team of 28 health care professionals to provide medical and dental care, health education and improve the quality life for hundreds of people who otherwise have no access to sustainable health care. For many, this is the only medical care they receive. This team will stop in Lima and hold clinic at orphanages on the outskirts of the city and then fly to southern Peru and travel by 4-wheel drive, making multi-day treks where there are no roads to remote areas of the Colca Canyon to hold clinics. Some of the indigenous people walk for days to come to our clinics. The team is diverse and includes medical professionals and health educators from many disciplines to address medical, dental, and public health issues that would otherwise go uncared for. These trips are an incredible opportunity for me (and you - by extension) to “be the change that we wish to see in the world.”
 
In order to make this trip, I need to cover all my own costs and medical supplies for the trip which comes to $3,400.00 (includes extension trip to Colca Canyon). I have already received a grant from Providence Health Systems for $750.00, but need more support. No contribution is too small and every single dollar or item that is donated is used (and reused) as much as possible. We also extract the sickest to the nearest city where they can get advanced care (appendectomy surgery, etc) or other treatment that we are not able to deliver due to the rugged conditions on this trip. We support local economies as much as possible and the medical supplies that are left over are given to local clinics, hospitals, and orphanages.

 
$25 buys enough medication to treat intestinal worms for over 300 people.

 $10 buys enough antibiotics to treat nine people

 $40 pays for an appendectomy surgery.

 $100 pays the rental for a truck to carry five medical team members & supplies.

 
Nothing is wasted. Monetary contributions direct to Project Helping Hands over $25 are tax deductible and you will receive a receipt from Project Helping Hands for the amount you give.
 
There are multiple ways you can make a donation toward this medical mission: a check sent to me, the PHH Web site, or a check sent directly to PHH, please see instructions below.
 
Part of PHH’s mission is providing sustainable health care services and new countries or regions are only added to their scope if PHH is able to support ongoing care.

Miserable? Embrace Your Angst

Why Do I Suffer a Lack of Confidence? Is Something Wrong with me?

Every person who has ever done anything great has suffered times of low self-confidence and self-doubt. You're no different.

In The Crystal Caves, author Mary Stewart captured the internal struggle we all deal with at one time or another in the character of Merlin the Magician. In Stewart's view, Merlin the great sorcerer had self-doubts despite his incredible supernatural abilities. He was always questioning if his abilities were real.

This image of a powerful sorcerer, who from the outside appears so skilled and powerful--yet is so filled with angst on the inside as he questions the truth of his abilities--provides a great representation for us to see what naturally occurs within us mere mortals.

Inside and Outside Viewpoints

So what's going on? Why, despite accomplishing sometimes great things, do we like Merlin still doubt ourselves? When it comes to taking the next step, getting the next job or love, or recovering from a breakup or loss why do we fall into self-doubt and a lack of confidence?

It has to do with our perspective--from the inside we see who we aren't and what isn't finished--i.e. everything we still want to accomplish, while from the outside people see who we are, what is finished and what we have accomplished.

"Others see us for who we are; we see ourselves for who we aren't."


There isn't anything wrong with you when you move into these times of internal angst. You are experiencing what it means to be human. Don't run away from your angst; embrace it; sit in it; experience it. Then, when you're ready, step out of your private shell and take a public step.

  • Put on the painter's pants, pick up the paint brush and paint your next masterpiece.
  • Put on your superhero's cloak, put your best foot forward, and work to save the next animal, organization or environment.
  • Put on your best face, be your best self, and go meet the person who may be your next great love.

Your private angst isn't as bad as it's cracked up to be. Somber times lead to enlightened times.

Memories of Loved Ones Are Like Songs in Our Soul

Who or what has touched your life and made it better?

Who do you think of with fondness that is no longer part of your life? Perhaps it is a beloved pet or person who has passed, or perhaps its someone who passed through your life for a brief moment and moved on?

For me, my mother who died shortly after Mother's Day  years ago tops my list. Mother's Day has become a time for me to sit in happy memories of my time with her and contemplate how deeply she touched my life. Remembering her bright spirit and kind heart always brings a smile to my face.

Memories of my mother are etched in my soul--a day doesn't go by I don't think about a bit of her homespun wisdom. This lighthearted and fun-loving woman loved life, animals and people--and passed that love of life on to me--leaving me with a daily song in my soul--and a belief in the basic goodness of humans.

My dog, Ginger, a golden-beagle, was my constant companion and confidant for almost 18 years. As most dogs are, she was a wonderful listener who was also comfortable sitting alongside me in silence.  She would cock her head and look at me as if to say, "And what else? What else is happening?" And like my mother, memories of my time with Ginger are like songs in my soul.

Songs in Our Soul

The word 'memorie' first appeared in the mid-13th century meaning 'mindful remembering'. As Margaret Wakeley said mindful remembering--or memories of loved ones are like songs in our soul.

It is through our mindful remembering  we create and maintain a sense of connectedness with people and animals present and past who have touched our hearts and we have the strength to get through the difficult times.

We are uplifted by sharing the stories of the companions we hold dear--relaying and replaying how they touched us and influenced our lives. Through the mindful remembering of the stories we tell we give more shared meaning and strength to our own lives as we move forward.

A few years ago I attended a celebration of life for a well-loved colleague who passed through this life too early. It was a day filled with friends and joy. One of the gifts I took away from the gathering was the Chico Gospel--a great song to share with those you love. I offer it to you to share with others. 


Don't wait for those you cherish to pass  on before you share memories. Contact those still in your life to share memories of how they've touched your life. Take time to acknowledge who you are grateful to have in your life. Reach out and lend a hand to someone who needs one.

Seek Meaningful Experiences to Be Authentically Happy

Get Meaning, Be Happy

According to Jennifer Aaker, author of The Dragonfly Effect, happiness isn't an elusive or superficial goal found by acting happy. It is a state of mind more easily attained by seeking meaningful experiences rather than trying to be happy.

In an interesting study performed by researchers at Stanford University, study participants were asked to either 'go create meaningfulness' or 'go create happiness' in the next 24 hours. Upon returning to the lab the following day they were asked 'Are you happy?'

The people tasked with creating happiness reported feeling less happy than those who sought to create meaning. Interestingly, the two groups didn't do that much differently but the people who went out to create meaning reported feeling more connectedness to the people and world around them.



Be Authentic--Be Real

False Fronts. With all the chatter about 'happiness' today, we can lose sight of the importance of being authentically happy. Happiness as viewed from the outside can simply be a false front leaving you feeling empty inside. And seeking happiness instead of seeking meaning in your day is the fast-path to feeling lost.

Shared Difficulties Create Meaning. Surprisingly, when we make a true connection with someone who shares a difficult experience with us or when we share our own with others we create a solid sense of peace and contentment inside.

It is the meaningful experience and feeling of connectedness that makes the difference. The connectedness deepens our life experience and makes us feel a part of the greater whole. Don't be afraid of the tough part of life. Learn to embrace the difficulties by letting them connect you to others and helping you find greater meaning in your life.

Get real.  Seek to fill your days with meaningful experiences that connect you to the people, animals and world around you. Start to notice how making a true connection in a single experience elevates your mood and graces you with a deeper contentment.

Lonely? Emerson says take time to Create Friends--The Masterpieces of Nature

Who's Your Masterpiece of Nature?

Who doesn't long for a play pal or best friend--someone who understands you, enjoys your company and at the same time understands sometimes you need to be alone? As Emerson said a friend may indeed be the masterpiece of nature.

Who do you count as a friend? What are the qualities of your masterpiece of nature? Good listener? Non-judgmental? Serious or deep? Funny or Fun? One with fur or skin?

To me, a friend is someone I can be myself with and who is fully herself when she is with me. We know we can share secrets as we mull over the day letting the difficulties of the day disappear as we examine in detail our responses to whatever excitement occurred. We know we can talk or not--and we won't be judged no matter what.

So if you're currently feeling alone and left out--how do you develop your masterpieces of nature--those friends you hold dear to your heart and you to theirs? How do you move from feeling lonely and alone to feeling loved, accepted and a part of things?

The Only Way to have a Friend is to be One

Take a lesson from the boy and dog in Sawyer Zook's painted tile above. They 'Get It!'--as they demonstrate what Emerson said, "The only way to have a friend is to be one".

You must put time and energy into establishing a relationship and this means spending time playing with each other if you are to develop a lasting relationship. That is why dogs are such great 'Gurus of Play'--they are unselfconscious about insisting we spend time with them in play. They simply walk up to you and expect you want to play too.

But how do you start to establish a relationship when you're feeling unsure in the beginning? You get over yourself and simply step in. Accept the self-consciousness and nervousness as the natural feelings of facing the unknown.

In the beginning we're all self-conscious about spending time with someone we don't know. But if you learn to take the focus off yourself and put it on a 'play activity' instead it gives you something outside of yourself to focus on. When you spend time with others in a shared activity it gives you time to get a sense of how compatible you are.

What Is Play?

To find like-minded people to play with you need to seek out activities YOU enjoy---that YOU define as play--and get involved. It is through your active involvement in activities you find engaging that puts you in contact with others who share your interests and open opportunities to develop friendships.

Play is defined as YOUR play--activities that engage YOUR interest. If you're not a person who 'enjoys having fun'  find something serious to sink your teeth into.

Growing up I watched my serious physicist father who had no interest in games or  traditional 'play' activities come alive when engaged in animated conversations with his physicist colleagues. He was also an avid gardener, bee keeper and animal keeper who enjoyed camping and hauling horse manure.  His interests were playing with the universe in his mind and running practical experiments at home.

So don't sit at home alone sulking and feeling lonely. Get out there and find your masterpieces of nature. Put the time into creating and maintaining your masterpieces and you'll reap the greatest reward of nature--a friend.

Worried About Being Laid Off? Snap Out of it! Find Your Strength and Resiliency to Persist


Are You One of the Lucky Ones?

Layoffs create fear and uncertainty throughout an organization. Even if you're one of the lucky ones still employed you're left to wonder who is next. If I'm laid off what will I do? Where will I find a job? 

As one of the lucky ones who survived round after round of layoffs, you may find your own fear and anxiety rises daily as you stand in hallways with fellow coworkers ruminating over the latest rumors about who is to stay and who is to go. And adding to your anxiety you come to work after a restless night's sleep too tired and drained to do a good job.

Perhaps you think about updating your resume and LinkedIn profile--but you lack the energy-- and secretly fear if you put energy into updating your resume you'll 'manifest' your own demise.

Ultimately you find yourself vacillating between frenetically overworking yourself trying to save your job one minute and doing a lackluster job and feeling resigned to losing your job the next.

It's easy to let fear paralyze you into retreating into inaction and indecisiveness leaving you in a constant state of anxiety about your future. So how do you overcome the fear immobilizing you and get on with your life?

Human Hardiness: Tap into Your Strength and Resiliency

"So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself — nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance."  FDR 1933

 80 years ago, in another time and another context, Franklin D Roosevelt spoke these words to a nation in need of honest, straightforward talk. Today these words ring just as true as we struggle to find our way in the ever-changing landscape of today's work world.

To move on with strength and resiliency in times of fear we need to unload fear--that nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror--so we can stop retreating into a frozen stance and start advancing and rebuilding the life we want.

When you're ready to give up the fear, get ready to tap into that deep well of human hardiness inside each one of us. In short--snap out of it! Decide to stop wallowing and quivering, and choose to pull yourself up by your bootstraps instead.

You will find your strength and resiliency with every pro-active step you take.  The key is to freshen up your ability to step into the unknown by running experiments without being concerned with the outcomes. Stop thinking; start doing.


Suspend Judgment. Forget about success and failure, and forget about pre-judging the success of your actions. Simply take actions that allow you to explore options or possibilities you find interesting. Keep a journal of your daily adventures and experiments.

Be Brave. Always believe in your ability to take another action. Take one step into the unknown each day that allows you to explore your options and rediscover how to find a new job in today's marketplace.

Live an Examined Life--Follow in Ralph Waldo Emerson's Footsteps

Are You Living the Life You Want?

Did you know all the great minds throughout time have one thing in common? They all kept written notes of their thoughts in a journal. Each had his or her own reasons for doing so, but in the end the result was the same: They lived an examined life.

Take Emerson and Thoreau, for example. According to Wikipedia, Ralph Waldo Emerson befriended Henry David Thoreau in 1837.  And in the fall of that year, Emerson asked Thoreau, "Do you keep a journal?" That simple question went on to have a lifelong inspiration for Thoreau--so why not for us? What inspiration could journaling have for us?

Most of us stumble along in life trying to find our way. We run into obstacles, get frustrated and perhaps get discouraged. Without living an examined life we can easily get stuck trying to figure things out in our head and fail to gain the perspective needed to see clearly and create the life we want.

Emerson said, "As long as a man stands in his own way, everything seems to be in his way." Committing your thoughts, feelings and ideas to paper is just what you need to get out of your own way.

Journaling gives you the perspective you need to see it is you who has the keys to go around obstacles, and it is you--not the world out there--that holds the keys to taking actions that will open your life. Once you can name the wall you've come up against when stuck, you can learn how to go through it. As Emerson noted, "Every wall is a door."

Everyone has roadblocks thrown at them, and everyone gets stuck.  Perhaps you've been been spurned by your love interest or rejected for a job, or you're facing divorce or a layoff-- and it feels like the world is getting in your way. By putting your thoughts on paper you will see clearer how to move forward creating the life you want.

Like Emerson and Thoreau, you have all the wisdom within you. Trust yourself. Start journaling--if you haven't already--to allow yourself to stand back from your thoughts and access your inner wisdom for overcoming obstacles and creating the life you want.

Creating Quiet--Go Placidly Amid the Noise and Haste

The Sounds of Silence

Look into 8 year old Max Lindsay's painting and imagine what you hear. Quiet, peaceful night sounds--perhaps the distant sound of a dog bark--or if you listen intently in the far distance, perhaps the silent WHOOSING of a falling star.

After a long day filled with noise and haste, our heads can get filled to the brim with the noise of overstimulation. We all need ways to quiet our minds and calm ourselves to regain a sense of peace and balance so we know everything is well in our world. But how do we do that?

Quieting the Noise of Overstimulation

Sometimes our heads get filled with the noise of conversations we had--and the ones we need to have--in response to people bringing conflict and drama into our busy day. It is these conversations continuously replaying in our heads creating the noise of the day--and making it feel like someone turned up the volume to an unbearable level we can't get away from.

Here is how to turn the noise volume down:

Awareness The first step towards quieting this noise of overstimulation is to acknowledge these inner conversations are going on and they are responsible for turning the volume up in your head.

Listen to the inner chatter so you can name the noise. Pay attention to the chatter in your head so you can name what's grating on your nerves--and allow yourself to do nothing about it. Write it down or talk it out with a trusted confidant. When you can name what is screaming in your head it gives you the control for turning the volume down to a more bearable level.

When you're ready, take action.  Don't be in a rush to take action. Take your time. You're trying to create quiet in your life and that will result when you find a way to think, act and communicate calmly and respectfully. When you're ready--take calm, thoughtful, and decisive action--showing yourself you're in control of creating a peaceful life.

Just listen and absorb.  Leo Babauta, author of Zen Habits says when someone talks to you, instead of jumping in with something about yourself--"Just listen. Absorb. Reflect their thoughts back to them." You will create quiet in how you respond to the noise.

Listening to Sounds in the Distance

There's an interesting relationship between 'sound' and 'noise'. The closer a sound gets the more it becomes noise and the farther away a noise gets the more it becomes sound. Noise is irritating and grating; sound is pleasant and peaceful.

This relationship leads to a very easy technique for quieting the noise in your head: listening to sounds in the distance.

Just like 'looking into 8 year old Max Lindsay's painting and imagining what you hear' --when you go outside and direct your attention towards listening for sounds in the far distance you move far away from the noise in your head to listening to silence and soft sounds.

Keep it Simple--Create the Life You Want

Adults: Kids in Big Bodies

Just look at Mirandah Powell's playful dog and happy girl enjoying each other's company. It's all just a moment of good fun. Doesn't it make you want to join in--and why not?

As grownups, we are just kids in big bodies. We never lose our desire to relax and enjoy a moment of fun. Deep inside we carry with us all the same wishes and desires we had as children.

  • We want to love and be loved.
  • We want to play.
  • We want playmates.
  • We want play dates.
  • We want to belong and be accepted.
  • We want to be on the team and asked to play.
  • We don't want to be left out or left behind.
  • We don't want to be bullied.
  • We want to be liked.
  • We want to have best friends.
  • We want to feel good.
  • We want to be safe.

These deeply held desires stemming from that place of child-like innocence are pure, untainted, and uncomplicated--unlike the adult veneer we use to cover them up.

'Life gets more complicated', we say when we become adults. 'Sometimes you just have to put up with things, keep your mouth shut and just go away.'

But if you find you're going away feeling angry, hostile, hurt, lonely, fearful or jealous--take another look at the list of child-like wishes to see if there is one that is not currently being met in your life. Does one or more of the core desires cause a longing in you and stir up old wounds? Where do you feel you're being left out or left behind?

Adults have Choices--Take Action on What Matters to You

As an adult you have choices. You can chose to change what isn't working for you or meeting your needs. If your current personal or work situation fails to meet your needs, change something. Make it a habit to improve your situation when you are unsatisfied with it. Strive to put more good stuff into your life and make less room for the nasty stuff.

  • Is your workplace soul-killing? Start looking for a healthier one.
  • Is your love interest playing games that create self-doubt and loneliness in you? Get back out there and find a better match for you. Don't shut down--open yourself up to new experiences.
  • Have your friends moved on and you're feeling left out? Get out and find activities to engage in to meet more people. Everyone wants friends to hang out with.
  • Have you retired and lost that sense of being part of a team or community? Explore options for getting involved in community activities or volunteering.

What's in Your Adult Sandbox?

Don't just passively resign yourself to the life you have if it isn't meeting your needs. Get out there and do something different. Like Miranda's happy girl, find yourself a play pal.

Start by looking at what is and is not in your sandbox. What does your current work or personal play yard contain for you? What are they missing? What needs to be eliminated?

You Learn What You Live
 
If you live with criticism, you learn to condemn.
 
If you live with hostility, you learn to fight.
 
If you live with ridicule, you learn to be shy.
 
If you live with shame, you learn to feel guilty.
 
If you live with tolerance, you learn to be patient.
 
If you live with encouragement, you learn confidence.
 
If you live with praise, you learn to appreciate.
 
If you live with fairness, you learn justice.
 
If you live with security, you learn to have faith.
 
If you live with approval, you learn to like yourself.
 
If you live with acceptance and friendship, you learn to find love in the world.

Your Choices Today Create Your Life Tomorrow

Trust Your Inner Wisdom

I love this painted tile by 8 year old Edwin Tickner. It makes me wonder what Edwin's dog is contemplating as he silently watches the moon. And what about his little 'alter ego' who lives underground? He too sits quietly looking in the same direction as he considers life.

It was Lao Tzu, the father of the Chinese spiritual tradition Taoism, who said "To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders." Edwin's dog intuitively understands: Taking a calm, quiet moment is important for us all. A still, calm mind allows us to see choices we are blind to when caught up in the often frenetic activity of daily life.

It is only in a state of calm we are able to open ourselves up to see the vast riches of the universe available to us all.

 Calm Contemplation of Life

If you've been feeling off-balance lately or something has been bothering you that you just can't put your finger on--take a cue from Edwin's dog--still your mind and calm yourself before you open yourself up to look into the horizon.

When your mind is calmed, take a moment to reflect on how your choices today will create your life of tomorrow. Consider your current situation and what factors would create good or poor, pleasant or unpleasant outcomes down the road.

With a calmed mind, consider these perspectives and outcomes. Write a list of factors for each that contributed to the outcomes. Don't be afraid to look through the eyes of innocence and trust in yourself as you contemplate your future. You can make good and better choices.

Start with the End in Mind--What Choices Today Got You There?

Perspective 1: Looking five years down the road, you are still working for the same organization or still in an intimate relationship with the same person. What did the organization or your love interest do right to keep you? What does your life look like now?

Perspective 2: Looking five years down the road, you have left the relationship or organization. What happened? Why did you leave? What could they have done differently to keep you?

Perspective 3: Looking five years down the road an issue you're struggling with right now has resolved in your favor. What does your life look like now? What made you choose the path you're now on? Why is your life better today than five years ago? What choices did you make to support a good life? What are you most proud of?

Perspective 4: Looking five years down the road you are unhappy about the choices you made. What different choices could you have made to end up with better outcomes?

Are You Being Dragged Along by Life? Get Involved!




The Fates Guide Those Who Go Willingly--All Others they Drag

Roman Philosopher, Seneca the Younger (5 BC-65 AD) wrote "Fate leads the willing and drags along the reluctant." Not much has changed through the ages, except perhaps the faces.

If The Fates rounded up the usual dragging suspects, would you be among them? Are you one for digging your heels in and resisting the unfolding of your life or are you a willing participant in the making of your life?

Purpose and Passion

"If one does not know to which port one is sailing, no wind is favorable." Lucius Annaeus Seneca

How do you feel about your life at this moment? Do you feel like life is passing you by while you remain a passive passenger? If so, get passionate about adding value and meaning to your life now by giving it purpose--and start living a purposeful life.

Even if your life had purpose and passion in the past, if you feel lackluster about it now you're drifting--a clear sign it's time to consciously re-purpose your life and get it back on a passionate track.

Which Do You Choose--An Inspired Life or One Mired in Minutia?

"In the absence of clearly defined goals, we become strangely loyal to performing daily trivia until ultimately we become enslaved by it." Robert Heinlein

As Heinlein says, without a clear vision for engaging in your life, it is easy to get caught up in the minutia of the daily mundane tasks that suck the energy right out of you. After a while, your life becomes defined by going to work, doing the laundry, going to the grocery store, or picking up the kids from school.

Without putting your life in the context of an inspired, purposeful life, all those daily activities begin to feel like merely putting one foot in front of the other in a monotonous march from one day to the next.

Stop living a life of minutia and start living an inspired, purposeful one. As Tom Thiss says, "Having a purpose is the difference between making a living and making a life.

Your Passionate Purpose is Found in the Giving, not the Getting
"From what we get, we can make a living. What we give, however, makes a life." Arthur Ashe

You want to make a positive impact in the world around you, not just make a living. And as Arthur Ashe says, the key to making an inspired, purpose-filled life is to give of yourself to others and the world around you.

Look for ways to get involved in things that matter to you. Don't be afraid to try things out. Be on a quest to get involved in activities that make you feel good. You'll know it when you find activities that provide meaning.

Look for ways to find meaning in the mundane. If you must do something--like go to a boring job to pay the bills--find a way to enjoy it by articulating how it fits into your greater life purpose. How are you actively giving of yourself in this mundane activity? How are you contributing to your life purpose?

Look for activities that are not contributing to your wellbeing you could give up. When you look at your free or down time, what are you doing with it that is un-inspiring--watching TV, playing video games, nothing? If you were to give up the time doing the un-inspired, what meaningful activities could you do instead?

Look for ways to give. What do you have to give and share with the world? What is your purpose? We are all driven to seek our purpose in life. Find yours--and get involved.

Stop Controlling, Start Trusting

Falling off a Cliff 

Today I got to thinking about the old story of the guy who fell off the cliff while viewing the Grand Canyon. After falling hundreds of feet, by chance, his hand catches a branch and he holds on for dear life.

When he finally gains the courage to open his eyes he sees he is on a sheer cliff 300 feet from the top and many more to the bottom--and his heart sinks. He's literally between a rock (cliff) and a hard place.

Never a particularly religious man, but in his moment of desperation he yells out:
"Oh God, oh God, please help me!"

At that moment the clouds part and a voice asks,

"Do you believe? Do you really believe?"


"Yes, Yes, I believe, I believe--just get me out of here!"

To which the voice replies,
"Then LET GO......"
Free Falling: Moving From Control to Trust

If life has felt a little rocky lately and you're doing your best to get control of your life, relationships, children, or work perhaps the answer is to loosen up and let go, rather than tighten up and control more.

When we're free falling through a rough patch in our lives it's only natural to want to control the people, things and events around us as everything seemingly spirals out of control. We desperately want something solid to grasp to stop the apparent loss of control.

But too often, as we allow fear and anxiety to rule us, we tighten up and develop hardening of the attitudes and rigidity of thinking leading to clogging up of our heart and life. We become wound so tight we come to believe we are the only ones who can 'take charge and get it right' and end up alienating the people around us and isolating ourselves--sinking us deeper into the darkness.

Can you make the shift from controlling to trusting?

What is it we need to give up to move from living our lives through a controlling stance to a trusting stance? We need to give up the false-safety of fear. We need to let go of the firm, rigid walls fear provides and take a leap of faith in ourselves, others, life and the unknown.

When you choose a trusting approach to life, you gain a more fluid, easy attitude that creates a sense of flow and peace in your life.

Once you get past the fear of giving up fear and control you'll discover a world in which all things seemingly good or bad work in your favor....a world in which everything is working out. You are safe and life is good.
