Butterflies of Hope

"Hope is being able to see there is
light despite the darkness."

Desmond Tutu

"We must accept finite disappointment
but never lose infinite hope."

Martin Luther King, Jr

"Hope is like the sun,
which, as we travel towards it,
casts the shadow of our burden behind us."

Samuel Smiles

"Let us, then, be up and doing,
with heart for any fate,
still achieving, still pursuing,
learn to labor and to wait."

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

"You aren't here merely to make a living,
You're here to enrich the world,
You're here in order to enable the world to live more amply
With a finer spirit of Hope and Achievement."

and give thanks for another day of loving."

Bloom with hundreds of flowers."

You Are Life's Song

You Are Life's Song

You are life's song flowing with the sea of life~

A musical instrument of rhythmic and soulful breath,

ebbing and flowing

in waves of melodically satisfying and memorable song.

Gently, gently,

humming, flowing, repeating in rhythmic succession~

A cadenced breath surging to create harmonious overtones~

In a symphony of Life

that crescendos and swells;

Pulling you deeper into the loving depths of Life.

Flow with the sea of life.

Carrying the Weight of a Passionate Life~Jeannette Encinias

Your Wild Bones Grow Luminous and Ripe

"When you are 80 years old

Your beauty rises in ways your cells can not imagine now,"

"And your wild bones grow luminous and ripe"

"After carrying the weight of a passionate life."

Jeannette Encinias

Dedicated to dear friends ahead of me on this journey of life
who inspire me with their strength and resiliency
in living a passionate life--
Norma Wright, Judi Smith, Karen King, Brandy Carson,
Mary Eaton, and Jeff and Lois Widen.

Many thanks to Sue Flynn for the barn owl photo,
and to Lee Bryant for passing on Jeannette Encinias' poem.
And of course many thanks to Jeannette Encinias for
sharing her poem with the world.

Some days if I sit quietly and wait,
beauty and wisdom land at my front door.
I always open the door and let it in.
What about you?
Can you feel the luminosity and ripeness
in your wild bones?

That's the Wonder of Love

The Wonder of Love

All she knew was she felt all higgledy-piggledy inside.

How wonderful it was to be loved.

At first she didn't know what hit her.

She felt all topsy-turvy.

It was intoxicating.

Slowly a tousled tenderness emerged

that hugged her soul

in a deep and tender embrace.

She belonged.

Feeling Higgledy-Piggledy

The Intoxicating Topsy-Turvy World of Love

She was all in a dither when love came along

and turned her world topsy-turvy.

She didn't know what hit her as a tousled tenderness emerged,

that made her feel all higgledy-piggledy inside.

How wonderful it was to be loved.

How wonderful it was to love life.

How wonderful it was to be part of the great circus of life.

Believe in Your Own Magic

Life is a performance art

that requires nerve and ingenuity

to manage the juggling and tumbling act

for living and loving.

There are risks involved in participating

in the high wire act, but the results are thrilling.

Be bold--take a leap--take a tumble--take a chance on love.

Be the acrobat of love who flies through life with the greatest of ease.

You are the Conjurer in the Circus of Life

You are not a passive participant sitting idle

as the circus of life unfolds around you.

You are the conjurer, the juggler, the magician and acrobat

making the magic happen.

Conjure Up a Big Tent Life!

Life is a circus. Enjoy the show!

"Magic, magic, all of life is magic
How can life be tragic when there's magic in the air?"

Song of the Open Road

"Afoot and light-hearted I take to the open road,

Healthy, free, the world before me,

The long brown path before me leading wherever I choose."

"Still here I carry my old delicious burdens,

I carry them~men and women~I carry them with me wherever I go,

I swear it is impossible for me to get rid of them,

I am fill’d with them, and I will fill them in return."

From Song of the Open Road
 Walt Whitman

What Do You Carry With You?

What would you find in your feathers upon closer look?

Underneath it all, are your feathers always ready to be
ruffled, or flocked full of friends?

Do you suit up in a soft downy vest of friends
each day, or a suit of armor?

About the Tufted Coquette

The tufted coquette (Lophornis ornatus) is a small, ornately-patterned hummingbird that breeds in eastern Venezuela, Trinidad, Guiana, and northern Brazil. The adult male Tufted Coquette has broad, rufous-and-black throat tufts as well as an orange crest that give this species its common name.

Nepstad, L. (2011). Tufted Coquette (Lophornis ornatus), version 1.0. In Neotropical Birds Online (T. S. Schulenberg, Editor). Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Ithaca, NY, USA. https://doi.org/10.2173/nb.tufcoq1.01

Credit and Thanks

**Credit and many thanks to Mukesh Ramdass for photographing the Tufted Coquette (a hummingbird) in Guyana, and to 'I Love Birdwatching' for posting it on Facebook for the world's enjoyment.

I was so taken with the beauty of this little creature I was compelled to study the details of it by looking for and finding the hidden beings within it.  I found this Hummer full of love.

For The Love of the World~Charlotte Tall Mountain

For the Love of the World

By Charlotte Tall Mountain

"For the love of a tree,
She went out on a limb.

For the love of the sea,
She rocked the boat.

For the love of the earth,
She dug deeper.

For the love of community,
She mended fences.

For the love of stars,
She let her light shine.

For the love of spirit,
She nurtured her soul."

"For the love of a good time,
She sowed seeds of happiness.

For the love of creativity,
She entertained new possibilities.

For love of herself,
She acknowledged her worth.

And the world was richer for her."

Charlotte Tall Mountain, U.S. artist and poet
1941 - 2006

Charlotte Tall Mountain is someone I would have loved to meet. She passed in 2006 so I missed my opportunity but that doesn't stop me from sitting with her wisdom.

I stumbled across this fabulous poem, "For the Love of the World", on Josie Moreno's Facebook post the other day (my usual path of discovery is "stumbling across'). She heard it at a memorial service and was compelled to share it (as I am too).

Stumbling Across Wisdom

Wisdom is all around us. Keep your eyes and ears open. There is always more available than what initially meets the eye. I was playing with the Barred-Eagle Owl and Butterfly pictures when Charlotte Tall Mountain's poem wafted into my consciousness. The poetry was a perfect fit for both winged images and stirred me to 'dig deeper'.

Thanks to Ellen Dennis for posting the Barred-Eagle Owl and Chris Veloon for posting the butterfly--both captured my attention and encouraged me to open my vision to seeing more than is visible to the eye.
