Is it Time to Rediscover Your Sense of Purpose?
January is a great time to rediscover your sense of purpose and to put it to work for you. Sometimes as we slog along through the year we get so caught up in meeting deadlines or marching to the tune of someone else's drum we forget what is important to us. This can leave us exhausted, unmotivated and looking for change.
It's always worth taking the time to ponder what your overarching purpose is in life at least once a year so you can reset your compass and recommit to the life you want to live.
Your sense of purpose is your beacon of light that lets you plow through the uninteresting or difficult details of life to accomplish great things no matter the task at hand.
When you know your sense of purpose, and let it guide you, you will shine bright and have more energy to engage in life and to overcome challenges.
Are You Laying Bricks or Building a Cathedral?
We are all builders of life. The question is, what are you building and how do you view what you're building? What type of community do you want to create? What impact do you want your actions to have?
Without a sense of purpose, your actions can feel like the mundane actions of just laying bricks to get through the day. But with a sense of purpose to your life, you can see that what you're doing is more than laying bricks. You are building a cathedral.
Who Do You Want to Be?
On a personal level, do you want to build yourself to be a strong, authentic, and capable builder of life? When the difficult decisions arise how will you choose a path that allows you to be strengthened rather than hardened by your life experience? What life purpose gives you the fortitude to stay the course in the face of challenges?
How Does Home and Family Play into Your Life Purpose?
On a personal level, does your life purpose include building loving, long-lasting relationships with family and friends? On a daily basis, when relationship difficulties arise, how will you guide your actions--by considering your desire to build a family cathedral or by an in-the-moment reaction to laying the bricks?
What Effect Does Your Life Purpose Have on Your Community?
On a community level, does your life purpose include building and supporting a strong, resilient, community around you that gives others a sense of belonging and safety?
What is Your Avenue for Applying Your Life Purpose?
It really doesn't matter where you live or what you do for work, you can apply your life purpose to deal with life wherever you are and whatever you're doing.
You are the conjurer, the juggler, the magician of life. You can manifest the power behind your life purpose at all times.
When I was younger I instinctually knew I had an important life purpose guiding me although at first I didn't name it. As I got older I realized the enormity of it and the importance of how it guided my daily actions so I named it.
My life purpose is to encourage healthy and
resilient individuals within healthy relationships
within healthy communities and organizations.
This now-named life purpose has been my measuring stick for my daily actions. And while my actions haven't always measured up, more often than not I have been willing to correct my course of action to put me back in line with my life purpose.
Living with Purpose Makes Life Extraordinary
The road of life is full of ups and downs. We face many challenges and difficulties along the way. But when we live life with purpose, it gives us the strength and courage to overcome the obstacles to building the life we envision.
And as a result of our living with purpose, that strength and courage to face hardships makes life exhilarating and extraordinary.
Take time to rediscover your life purpose, and start living with purpose, courage, and intent. You deserve to experience an extraordinary life!
