Tis a Fearful Thing
‘Tis a fearful thing
to love what death can touch.
to love what death can touch.
A fearful thing
to love, to hope, to dream, to be--to be,
to love, to hope, to dream, to be--to be,
And oh, to lose.
A thing for fools, this,
And a holy thing,
a holy thing
to love.
'Tis a Human Thing, Love
For your life has lived in me,
your laugh once lifted me,
For your life has lived in me,
your laugh once lifted me,
your word was gift to me.
To remember this brings painful joy.
‘Tis a human thing, love,
a holy thing, to love
what death has touched.
‘Tis a human thing, love,
a holy thing, to love
what death has touched.
Yehuda HaLevi 1075 – 1141
Remembering brings Painful Joy
'Tis a Human Thing, Love
Thanks to my good friend, Deb, for sharing this poem, 'Tis a Fearful Thing'--written so long ago on the painful joy of 'loving that what death can touch'.
With the past year bringing so many profound losses to so many people I felt compelled to share--while pondering myself the holy decision to love again.

Thanks, Jean. I am compelled to share my 'fabulous finds'! There is so much wisdom out there all we have to do is look and listen.
If you would like to see this poem performed watch the last episode of Godless. Moving!!!
I lost 3 in October and 5 in 2018. Only 1 of the 5 was "old".
Dean what a difficult loss you've had in such a short period of time. I am constantly amazed by the human spirit's ability to endure the losses and still keep going. As Mark Nepo wrote "we must endure what we can't escape." Wishing you the strength and the heart to 'love what death can touch'.
