Let the Good Times Roll! When Happiness and Good Times Return

Happiness

Relish Your Good Fortune

Sometimes when you've been down so long you don't even remember what it feels like to be up. But sometimes--when you least expect it--happiness and good times show up on your doorstep. Then what? How do you act? What do you do?

Good Times

How to Act when Happiness and Good Times Return

Don't chastise them for being late--and don't call them liars and send them away again. Instead, treat Happiness and Good Times as honored guests--welcome to stay as long as they'd like.

Treat Happiness and Good Times as honored guests--welcome to stay as long as they'd like.

Take them for long walks through town to reacquaint them with your environment. Dress them up and show them off to everyone you meet. Let them shine.

Take them out with friends and loved ones to welcome them home.  Share their sparkle and let their fairy dust sprinkle on those you love.

Share the sparkle of happiness and good times with loved ones.

Sit quiet and let them whisper words of love and encouragement in your ear. Trust them to speak truth to you, and then help them build a soft nest to rest in your heart. Thank them for coming home to roost.

Let happiness and good times whisper words of love and encouragement.

Leave the Door Open  for Happiness

If you've been down so long you don't remember how to feel good, leave the door open for happiness and good times to return. Keep a positive expectation for the good times to show up.

Leave the Back Door Open for Sorrow, Grief, Anger and Misery to Go

When you've been living with misery for so long it can be hard to give it up. But don't be tempted to continue wallowing in it when your moments of happiness return. Willingly wade into the good times instead.

There's a lot to make us all miserable right now. So it's even more important that we welcome those moments of happiness and good times when they show up. Let go of the false belief that you must remain miserable during these times.

Don't let the false lure of guilt about letting go of your miserable feelings take you in.

When you share your happiness, you bring others with you. Feel good about bringing a bit of hope and lightness to others. That's how we'll all make it through the dark times.

Keep a green tree in your heart
and perhaps a singing bird will come.

Chinese Proverb

Build a soft nest in your heart for happiness and good times to reside.

Thank you happiness and good times for coming home to roost!

Lightarted Living: Dogs See with their Noses I Supposes

Lightarted Living: Dogs See with their Noses I Supposes:

Dogs See with their Noses I Supposes

Dogs See with their Noses

We walk the trail,
We think we see.
But our sight is limited
to what's before us,
You see.

But dogs they see
with their noses.
They can smell
who's been here before,
I supposes.

We see footprints
and think we know
all that has happened
and who has traveled this path.

But dogs engage their nose
to follow the tale
of who's been visiting
and wagging their tails.

It's such a treat
to watch
a dog's feat
of scratching and sniffing
as they lollygag
and seek
to communicate
with the world around them.

So while we see through our eyes,
Dogs see with their noses,
I supposes!

Who's been here,
do you suppose?

Lightarted Living: Lost Soul Found

Lightarted Living: Lost Soul Found

Lost Soul Found

LOST SOUL FOUND

While looking for my lost soul one day,
I found it had never gone away.

Beneath the surface, she waited patiently for the day
I'd remember my basic goodness was always here to stay.

Soon, my soul, she blossomed and bloomed,
filled with perfumed love and compassion--more than I could ever presume.

OH JOY!

"Here I am," she whispered in my ear. "Welcome home."

Lightarted Living: Anxious? Be Cunning to Loosen Anxiety's Grip

Lightarted Living: Anxious? Be Cunning to Loosen Anxiety's Grip

Anxious? Be Cunning to Loosen Anxiety's Grip

Anxiety is Secretive
"Anxiety is secretive. He does not trust ~ not even his friends worry, terror, doubt and panic. He has a way of glombing onto your skin like smog and then you feel unclean."
J Ruth Gendler

The Cunning and Persistent Anxiety Must be Shooed Away
"Anxiety likes to visit me late at night when I'm alone and exhausted. I have never slept with him but he kissed me on the forehead once and I had a headache for two years."
From The Book of Qualities by J Ruth Gendler
To shoo anxiety away, you must name what is causing him to linger and make him come out into the light.

You must Be Cunning to Get Rid of Anxiety
"Anxiety is sure a nuisance to get out of the house. He has no respect for locks or curtains or doors. I speak from experience.
It takes cunning to get rid of him ~ a combination of anger, humor, and self-respect. A bath helps too.
He does not like to get wet. As a last resort, if you are not near a bathtub wet your face with tears."
From The Book of Qualities by J Ruth Gendler

Loosen Anxiety's Grip

Go on ~ kick anxiety out of your head. Be cunning ~ discover the right combination of anger, humor and self-respect to take up residence in your head, making no room for long-lasting anxiety. Take little actions to help you face the source of your anxiety. Find ways to poke fun at it. Laugh out loud once a day.

Let humor wash over you and refresh your spirit.
Get mad enough to take positive action.
Name what's causing your anxiety
with the help of a trusted love one, then let it go.

The Book of Qualities

I first fell in love with 'The Book of Qualities' 35 years ago. This brilliantly intuitive work of art breathes life into the rich diversity of human qualities making them come alive to resonate deep inside us.

The other day I stumbled across my copy of 'The Book of Qualities' that had been sitting quietly in my library for years waiting to be rediscovered. Gendler's description of anxiety was just what I needed to consider today, and I wanted to share it with you.

You can order The Book of Qualities on Amazon.
