Lightarted Living: One Day by the Seaside

Lightarted Living: One Day by the Seaside:

One Day by the Seaside

One day by the seaside
On a gently unfolding day
I spied a tiny jellyfish
slowly floating by.

I imagined myself inside
what looked like an alien spaceship
to me and I asked the jellyfish
"What kind of an alien are you
and how are you like me?"

Her answer was a gentle nod
as she graceful pulsed away.
I think I saw a tiny smile before
she slowly swam away.

So it remains a mystery
and I may never really know.
But I can use my imagination
to decide what makes a jellyfish
flow so slowly and look as if she glows.

Lightarted Living: Stop Controlling, Start Trusting

Lightarted Living: Stop Controlling, Start Trusting:

Stop Controlling, Start Trusting

"The purpose of life is to unlearn what has been learned, and to remember what has been forgotten." Sufi Saying

Falling off a Cliff

Today I got to thinking about the old story of the guy who fell off the cliff while viewing the Grand Canyon. After falling hundreds of feet, by chance, his hand catches a branch and he holds on for dear life.

When he finally gains the courage to open his eyes he sees he is on a sheer cliff 300 feet from the top and many more to the bottom--and his heart sinks. He's literally between a rock (cliff) and a hard place.

Never a particularly religious man, but in his moment of desperation he yells out:
"Oh God, oh God, please help me!"

At that moment the clouds part and a voice asks,

"Do you believe? Do you really believe?"

"Yes, Yes, I believe, I believe--just get me out of here!"

To which the voice replies,
"Then LET GO......"
Free Falling: Moving From Control to Trust

If life has felt a little rocky lately and you're doing your best to get control of your life, relationships, children, or work perhaps the answer is to loosen up and let go, rather than tighten up and control more.

When we're free falling through a rough patch in our lives it's only natural to want to control the people, things and events around us as everything seemingly spirals out of control. We desperately want something solid to grasp to stop the apparent loss of control.

But too often, as we allow fear and anxiety to rule us, we tighten up and develop hardening of the attitudes and rigidity of thinking leading to clogging up of our heart and life. We become wound so tight we come to believe we are the only ones who can 'take charge and get it right' and end up alienating the people around us and isolating ourselves--sinking us deeper into the darkness.

Can you make the shift from controlling to trusting?

What is it we need to give up to move from living our lives through a controlling stance to a trusting stance?

We need to give up the false-safety of fear. We need to let go of the firm, rigid walls fear provides and take a leap of faith in ourselves, others, life and the unknown.

When you choose a trusting approach to life, you gain a more fluid, easy attitude that creates a sense of flow and peace in your life.

Once you get past the fear of giving up fear and control you'll discover a world in which all things seemingly good or bad work in your favor....a world in which everything is working out. You are safe and life is good.

Go on, take a leap of faith in yourself, others, life and the unknown.

"The warrior who trusts his path doesn't need to prove the other is wrong."  Paulo Coelho

Lightarted Living: An Extraordinarily Ordinary Day

Lightarted Living: An Extraordinarily Ordinary Day

An Extraordinarily Ordinary Day

"What did you do today?" my son asked of me.

"Nothing much. Just the usual....Just the way I like it."

While it's fun to have a circus come to town

every once in a while, my preference is

to wake to enjoy the attributes of an ordinary day.

Today Mother Earth says

"Look at this extraordinarily ordinary day!

Breathe in and enjoy the wonder of an ordinary day."

"It's just the way I like it!

It makes me feel good.

I fit in quite nicely

and feel I can shine."

"So what do you say, let's go out and play

on this most extraordinarily ordinary day."

"Let's laugh and tell secrets

that make us feel gay,

knowing what awesome creatures

we are on this extraordinarily ordinary day."

"Let's enjoy this extraordinarily ordinary day

that feels so right and makes us happy

every moment today."

Lightarted Living: A River of Dogs Coming to Me

Lightarted Living: A River of Dogs Coming to Me:

A River of Dogs Coming to Me

A river of dogs is
coming for me.

It's my time to get
a new dog, you see.

A river of dogs,
which one will it be?

Which one will swim into my life
to keep me company?

I think the one with
a question mark of a tail.

The one who makes me laugh
without fail.

I think the one with
big ears, and a beautiful smile.

I think a dog who is smart
and without guile.

I think a dog who is
friendly in spirit,
one who loves all other dogs,
and all humans, large and small.

Oh look! What's this?

Who's come along?

A dog named 'Amka'
so aptly named,
I'll keep her name
and put it to song.

Amka
meaning 'one with a friendly spirit
is such a sweet Inuit name.

It fits her so perfectly
how could she be called
by any other name?

In the river of life
I think Amka and I
will do swimmingly together.

We'll spend our days
being calm, peaceful and joyous.

May all our days
be the dog days of summer.
