Lighten Up! Take Life Seriously and Yourself Lightly
"Before you criticize someone you should walk a mile in their shoes.
That way, when you criticize them you're a mile away--
and you have their shoes."
Jack Hanley, Deep Thoughts
"Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: “Mankind.” Basically, it’s made up of two separate words, mank and ind. What do these words mean? It’s a mystery, and that’s why so is mankind."
Jack Hanley, Deep Thoughts
Take yourself lightly and your life seriously.
Find time to laugh at yourself and poke fun at your humanness.
It will make the journey more fun.

Its Time! Bring Back Love, Compassion, Kindness and Forgiveness
"You can't live a perfect day
without doing something for someone
who will never be able to repay you."
John Wooden
With all the tough stuff swirling around in the world, now more than ever its imperative we find ways to reach out to one another with compassion, kindness and forgiveness.
We could all do with a bit of lightness and goodwill.
Begin with You
If you want to feel better yourself, there is no faster way than to extend a hand of kindness to others. As we do unto others, we do unto ourselves too. (Thus the saying 'back at ya.')
Furthermore, you need to extend the same compassion and kindness to yourself that you'd extend to others. 'Do unto others AS you do unto you'--in other words, spread the good stuff all around and don't forget yourself.
If you aren't exactly where you want to be at this stage of your life, relax and regroup. Life is a series of stop and start over episodes in which we're constantly adjusting our path. Be ready to forgive yourself for straying off path and reset your focus.
Trust yourself to act in ways to make the world and your life a better place. Believe in yourself.
Do Unto Others
Who do you see around you who could use a bit of kindness or comfort? Perhaps its someone you know or perhaps its a stranger who has fallen on tough times.
Never underestimate how an unexpected act of kindness can give another just the lift they need.
What single act of kindness could you do to make one person's life a little better? Do it today.
"It isn't what we don't know that gives us trouble. It's what we know that ain't so."
Will Rogers
Seek to Heal 'Us Against Them'
“Life becomes easier when you learn to accept an apology you never got.”
Robert Brault
Where have you developed an 'us vs them' standoff in your life? Are you at a place where you might be willing to reestablish a relationship by extending a hand of forgiveness?
What can you do to build bridges, begin the long journey to healing old hurts, and rebuild trust with people you care most about?
Who in your life have you recently hardened your heart against that if you softened your stance with you could reestablish a life based in compassion, understanding, forgiveness and love?
💓Bury the hatchet.
💙Expand your heart.
💚Be a Bigger person.
Life is short. Use your compassion and forgiveness to build bridges and tear down walls. Use your imagination to touch up memories and rediscover the love and good times you previously shared with friends and family who have fallen by the wayside.
"You cannot do a kindness too soon for you never know how soon it will be too late."
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Painting Your Dreams
💓What direction is your
life taking at the moment? Is it where you want to go? Are you building a life based on love, compassion, kindness and forgiveness?
💙What are your burning life questions? Who and what do you want to share your life?
💛If you were to do something surprising with your life, what would it be?
💜What is the most interesting question someone has asked you about your life?
💓What is the most important thing you could do with your life? How can you be of greatest service to others?
💙What's stopping you from taking a step--any step? Go on--paint your dreams and get on with it.

And They All Lived Happily Ever After
Why Not Have Happy Endings
She loved her rose-colored glasses. "Why not have happy endings?", she thought. And so she picked up her brushes and got to work putting a paint job on the world.
"After all, every girl loves a happy ever after", she thought. Then she put on her rose-colored glasses and painted the rosiest life she could imagine...and they all lived happily ever after.
Sometimes you just have to don your rose colored glasses and step into the sunshine-- despite whatever current crisis happens to be clouding your life. When life throws muck your way the proper response is to take the paint brushes out of your life tool box and put a paint job on the world.
What's in Your Tool Box?
You have all the tools you need in your tool box to brighten up your future. All you need to do is reach in, pull them out, and then get to work. Don't settle for a black and white world when you can create a rainbow.
Build Your Nest in the Eye of the Storm
The tough stuff will find it's way into your life all by itself. Pay it no mind.
Keep your focus on the bright future you want and invite your fun-loving and industrious spirit into your life daily.
A little rain in your life won't hurt you. Learn to build a place of comfort when life starts to storm.
Find a way to put on your rose-colored glasses each day to give you the lift you need to see your way to creating a happy and fulfilling life. Then start painting....

Getting the Stress of the World Out of Mind
Found Things Collection
Who hasn't wandered the beach or woods and picked up little found treasures to stash away? Perhaps a sea shell, piece of driftwood, or feather found their way to you. Or a bit of smoothed sea glass, pebbles, eucalyptus bark, or aged piece of metal captured your interest and imagination worthy of taking with you.
What is it about us, that lures us into seeking these treasures and hauling them home?
Perhaps we seek these treasures as they provide us with a sense of comfort, belonging, and awe. Perhaps they allow us to ponder the wonders of the world, our ancestors, and how these bits of found treasures landed in this place at this time.
Or perhaps we gravitate toward finding worry stones or bits of string we can take out now and then to look upon to remind us to relax and let go of the stress of the world.
Gathering with a Purposeless Sense of Flow
Free-flow exploration is a therapeutic activity that lets us leave the worries of the world far behind us.
When we're in a treasure hunting mode, the stress of the world is out of mind as we slip into a purposeless sense of flow and focus.
Many a time I've been sucked into sea shell hunting on a beach for hours. No matter how stressed or burdened I was, the moment I arrive at the beach, the smells, sand, wind and waves puts me back to an earlier stage of life when I freely explored the world around me with awe and a sense of flow, rather than a sense of purpose.
And as I move into the flow of purposelessness, my breathing slows and gets in sync with the ebb and flow of the waves, creating a sense of calm within me.
Through the simple act of exploring purposelessly I am brought back to living in the moment, and I am one with nature. In that moment the stress of the world disappears from view.
Purposeless Exploring Reminiscent of Unfettered Days
Any activity can serve as purposeless exploration--as long as you have no expected goal or outcome from engaging in the activity.
It is your sea shell hunting frame of mind that makes it good for getting the stress of the world out of your mind. It is a mind-set reminiscent of the unfettered days of childhood play.
When I'm sitting with pen in hand looking for the hidden beings in a photograph I am sea shell hunting. I have no expectation for what I am going to find, I am just enthralled in the process of looking and seeing what emerges.
Keep the Stress of the World from Overwhelming You
To keep the stress of the world from overwhelming you, regularly engage in purposeless quests. Be curious. Let your interests suck you into free-flow exploration like a day of sea shell hunting.
Consider:
💓House hunting without thinking about buying a house;
💙Job hunting without thinking about getting a job;
💚Dog searching without thinking about bringing one home;
💛Exploring down town without thinking about buying anything;
💜Hiking a new trail without thinking about how fast or how far you go;
💓Taking a trip to the beach without any plans.

Night Owls~Tu-Whit, Tu-Who And Hello to You!
"When the owl sings,
The night is silent."
Charles de Leusse
"Then nightly sings the staring owl,
Tu-Whit, Tu-Who,
A merry note."
William Shakespeare
Owl in Nesting Box on Barn
"A wise old owl sat on an oak,
The more he saw,
The less he spoke.
The less he spoke the more he heard
Why can't we be more like that wise old bird?"
Old Nursery Rhyme
See the Owl Eyes?
Thanks to Sue Fynn who keeps her owl cam focused on her barn, and then generously shares her owls with us. The two bright dots are the eyes of the owl who took up residence in the owl nesting box on her barn.
