Burned Out? Take a 'Do-Nothing' Day

Had Enough? Take a Do-Nothing Day

Don't feel like:
  • Answering the phone or email?
  • Socializing?
  • Being creative?
  • Being productive?

Don't!

You know you work too hard and burn yourself out. Sometimes in order to rekindle that fire in your belly so you can be more productive and creative you need to stop and do nothing.

Nada.

Think about it--When was the last time you did nothing without feeling guilty about it? There's no day like today to enjoy doing nothing.

La De Da...Give it up for Your Do-Nothing Day

  • Lose the expectations
  • Give in to that nap
  • Un-schedule your time
  • Do stuff that contributes to no one
  • Be unproductive
  • Zone out
  • Waste your day

The only way to get the most out of your life and the best out of yourself is to regularly give yourself time to recoup your energy through the 'sit and do nothing' exercise. What are you waiting for? Go waste your time and enjoy doing nothing!

Sue, that is what I call a "Me Day" and I've been needing one for a very long time! Thanks for listing the reasons why I really need one - and soon!

It's so rare that I do "nothing." A week or so ago I woke up feeling a bit tired and had no energy. Not quite sick, but kind of -- and I haven't been sick in several years! I took it easy, read a novel in bed in between naps, and felt renewed and ready to go the next day. If you are like me, you are always pushing yourself, always going, always moving. I think my body gave me the word -- take a break.

I would call it a Me Day too, Jean, but lately I've been working with a dog training program that teaches the sit and do nothing exercise to the dogs. What I noticed is what happens to the humans---they learn to be calm and patient...and the importance of doing nothing in the process.

Its so simple--doing nothing--why do we have to make such a big deal out of doing it?

Chris I hear you! Our bodies are the ultimate Life Coaches! I AM like you--always pushing, always going, always moving.

It feels so good to stop and do nothing, without guilt. Reading a book is one of those things I have difficulty stopping to do. Today I did just that!

Sue, just came back to let you know I got that pesky deadline (magazine article) behind me and I am now going to schedule both a Me Day and a Do-Nothing Day - WooHoo!

Whoo Hoo is right, Jean! I recognize an overachiever through the airwaves!

Maybe if we set a deadline for a do-nothing day we'd rush to meet that one too!

Enjoy your well-deserved rest!

I kind of felt guilty, i woke up but stayed in bed for hours. I work full time(two jobs) and i am a full time student. I have been so stressed. But after reading this i am glad to have a "Do nothing Day", i do soooo much and needed to give into myself today. Thanks for the article :)

Jessica--You embody all the hard-driving characteristics of a person so worthy and in need of do-nothing days! Lose the guilt and enjoy a well-needed day to refresh and recoup.
