Living a Good Life: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

A Parent's Dreams

From the moment we're born, our parents have dreams for us. They want us to grow up to become good people who find satisfaction, contentment, happiness and love. They want us to know the joy of making a contribution to the world. So what has become of your parent's dreams for you? And if you are a parent, what has become of your dream for your children?

How could you change your approach to life at this moment to more fully plunge into life with boldness, enthusiasm and perseverance to live the good life your parents dreamed for you--no matter how old you are?

"The person born with a talent they are meant to use
will find their greatest happiness in using it."

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

"What is uttered from the heart alone,
will win the hearts of others to your own."

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

"In the realm of ideas everything depends on enthusiasm...
in the real world all rests on perseverance."

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

"Nothing is worth more than this day."

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

"Nothing shows a man's character more than what he laughs at."

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

"Plunge boldly into the thick of life,
and seize it where you will, it is always interesting."

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

"If you treat an individual as if he were what he ought to be and could be,
he will become what he ought to be and could be."

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

"Dream no small dreams for they have no power to move the hearts of men."

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

"Destiny grants us our wishes, but in its own way,
in order to give us something beyond our wishes."

 Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

“Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has genius, power and magic in it!”

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

"Magic is believing in yourself, if you can do that,
you can make anything happen."

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Love Letters from the Heart of a Mother
I began this post as a love letter to my adult son, Sean Royce. As I reminisced about earlier moments in life I began to think about the dreams I had for my children as they were growing up. This got me thinking about the universality of parental dreams--and how my parents had dreams for me just as I have dreams for my children.
We are all destined to become adult children--and this includes you dear reader as you were once a child too.
What were some of the dreams your parents had for your life?--that you grow up to use the talents you were meant to share; that you allow your life to be shaped by heart-felt visions not just head-lead thoughts; that you utilize both enthusiasm and perseverance to make your way in life; that you know the worth of each day;  that you know how to laugh at yourself and take yourself lightly; that you plunge boldly into life and find what interests you daily; that you become what you ought to be and could be; that you know the importance of dreaming big; that whatever you dream you can do you begin it; that you understand the magic of believing in yourself; and that you know the goodness of life, despite the hardships.
Take a moment to consider your own relationship to 'living a good life'. How could you change your approach to life at this moment to more fully plunge into life with boldness, enthusiasm and perseverance to live the good life your parents dreamed for you?
