Believe in a Loving World~Invite Good Fates into Your Life

Once in a Blue Moon Good Fates and Fairies Show Up

When my daughter was eight, she and a playmate dug a hole on our hillside to create a fairy lair. They spent hours filling it with leaves, moss, sticks and stones as well as bits of seeds, nuts, and cheese in the hopes of attracting fairies.

My Fairy!

These delightfully innocent girls were true believers diligent in their efforts to invite the good fates into their lives. They never stopped to wonder if all their hard work would produce the desired outcomes. Their play simply filled their heads with pleasant images of a loving world in which little beings watched over them to keep them safe even while they slept.

The girls kept a daily watch on the fairy lair and waited for a sign that the fairies had come. Soon--the day after a blue moon--evidence appeared showing a fairy had indeed visited the fairy den--a trail of fairy dust and tiny gifts had replaced the fairy treats the girls left.

Let your life dance lightly
on the edges of time
like the dew on the tip of a leaf

Rabindranath Tagore

The girls were estatic! Excitement abounded! Although they didn't actually SEE a fairy they knew they were on the right path!

They laughed as they prepared more gifts for the fairies and composed notes for the yet unknown tiny fates. Then, again, they waited with anticipation to see what magical experiences awaited them.

Their persistence and patient efforts were rewarded with a blooming relationship with the fairies. Each girl ended up with a fairy of her own to share secrets and to live in her heart.

A delightful story unfolded of fairies living in the surrounding area, and a relationship was woven between the girls and the Fern Wood Fairy Clan through letters and gifts that passed between fairies and humans.

When Tracy's cousin, Laura, came to visit over Thanksgiving Tracy told her about her fairy. So Laura and Tracy both wrote to the fairies to ask if Laura could also enjoy a relationship with a fairy friend.

Their story of innocence, imagination and hope is shared with you through the letters passed between human and fairy in hopes that some of the good thoughts and beliefs in the goodness of life will rub off on you.

(As fairies are tiny as well as their writings, their letters have been enlarged so you can read them.)

"Actions are the seed of fate deeds grow into destiny." Harry S Truman

"A lady, with whom I was riding in the forest, said to me, that the woods always seemed to her to wait, as if the genii who inhabit them suspended their deeds until the wayfarer has passed onward: a thought which poetry has celebrated in the dance of the fairies, which breaks off on the approach of human feet."
Ralph Waldo Emerson

The Fates~ "Those who Shape What Must Be"

Contact with the Fern Wood Fairies captured the imagination of three little girls for months, and captured mine, and I hope theirs for a lifetime. I, too, am a true believer in inviting good fates into our lives.

....And one always hopes to glance upon a fairy.

One also hopes we are never too old and knowing to actively look for the good fates all around us--hiding in the crevasses of our lives.

To grow old is to grow cynical about the world and give up hope. To remain young and resilient requires us to continually 'wait with anticipation for the magical experiences to appear in our lives after we sow the seeds of our destiny.'

A bit of magical thinking never hurt anyone. We all need a bit of fairy dust every now and then to put us on the trail to the life we want. It is good to look forward to the future with innocence and enthusiasm.

Keep your eyes open for all that is good and loving in the world, and continually sow the seeds for a satisfying and happy destiny. Then sit back and expectantly wait for the magic to appear.

"The Latin word fata (itself coming from fari, “to speak”, implying prophecy) is the root for words such as fate and fairy. It was applied to goddesses associated with destiny (as infataefatales deae or sorores fatalis) and also female supernatural beings immanent within wellsprings or other natural places, by medieval clerics. In particular, these medieval writers recognized the belief and worship of ‘birth fairies’ or fates by women who set a table with offerings for them after the birth of a child."

Be of Good Cheer: Prevent the Birds of Sorrow from Nesting in Your Hair

"Why should I be unhappy?
Every parcel of my being is in full bloom."

Rumi

Do Not Despair

Things can happen in life that sends us down the road to despair. But when you give into a hopeless, pessimistic view of life it's often difficult to find your way back to engaging in a productive and satisfying life. Why is that? And what can we do to keep ourselves from falling into deep despair and sadness?

As American Historian, Howard Zinn spelled it out so clearly, "Pessimism is a self-fulfilling prophesy; it reproduces itself by crippling our will to act."

"You can't prevent the birds of sorrow from flying overhead,
but you can prevent their building nests in your hair."

Chinese Proverb

Never Lose Your Willingness to Act
To get through life we must accept that 'birds of sorrow' will fly over us many times while at the same time we must accept there are things we can do to 'prevent their building nests in our hair'.

The key to keeping despair and sorrow from taking up residence in us is to continuously take steps in the direction of the life we want despite the birds of sorrow flying overhead.

We must never lose our willingness to act. It is through the physical acts of doing something positive that we show ourselves we can move beyond the current situation leading us to become pessimistic and despair for the future.

"She breathes in dirt and exhales flowers."

Anon

Regenerative Action

Sometimes the positive physical actions we take in response to the birds of sorrow flying overhead have nothing directly to do with our sorrow. Sometimes they're just the little regenerative activities that help us reengage in life--gardening, hiking, art, writing a letter, or cheering someone else on.

Whatever the action we take that moves us towards active living will make a difference as it breaks the spell of immobilization and the freezing of our emotions.

"Play in the dirt because life is too short to always have clean fingernails."

The Praire Homestead

The Blue Bird of Happiness

Bringing you Cheer!

Today's a New Day

Be of Good Cheer

If something has caused you to despair of late, get out there and do some simple restorative activity. Don't think about it--just do it. Time and positive action will lead you to better times.

Thanks to my childhood friend, Kimberly Asborno, for allowing me to scribble over her award-winning succulents. I love succulents--the little 'fat guys' make me happy.

Of late I've been thinking about the good times I spent with Kim all those years ago. So when I saw her perfect succulents they made me think how we were cozy like that. And despite losing touch through the years, she still holds a place in my warm and fond memories of years gone by.

Now What? Getting On with Life

So that just Happened...Now What?

💓You completed your cancer treatment and just got a clean bill of health. You're quietly relieved. Now What?

💓You focused for a year on creating a spectacular wedding that was a beautiful, warm event. You're tired and happy. Now What?

💓You finally got pregnant and just delivered your first baby. You're tired and in love. Now What?

💓You just lost faith in your current job and you're contemplating your future. You're weary and discombobulated.  Now What?

💓You've been looking forward to retiring and the big day is finally here. You're excited and scared. Now What?

The answer to 'Now What?' is always the same--no matter what the situation--good or bad:
"Accept What Is; Release What Was; Create What Must Be".  Andrea Balt

"Why should I be unhappy? Every parcel of my being is in full bloom." Rumi

All Things Seemingly Good or Bad Work in My Favor

Staying engaged in life is about putting one foot in front of another whether you're recovering from or stepping into a scary experience, or coming down from a long anticipated happy event. There's always the next step.

If you accept 'all things seemingly good or bad work in your favor' you'll condition yourself to always take that next step towards the sun, preparing yourself to be in 'full bloom' and happy.

"Hope is like the sun, which as we journey towards it, casts the shadow of our burden behind us." Samuel Smiles

The trick is to recognize which way the sunshine is--i.e. what is the life path that will give you the brightest rays of hope and the sunniest disposition.  You've got to name what it is you want in your next phase of your journey and focus your attention with the brightest laser beam on the step that will open up the most light into your life--and then take it.

We all have our moments of doubt, when we question if the good news or happy times will be followed by bad; or we wonder if we'll ever get out of the difficult times. But the more we choose to step towards the sun no matter what, the more sunshine fills our lives.

"There was never a night or problem that could defeat sunrise or hope." Bernard Williams
